Michilimackinac: A Tale of the Straits

by David A. Turrill

This rich and captivating historical novel captures the events and occupants of Fort Michilimackinac during the French and Indian War. Detailed descriptions of the Ottawa, Potawotomi, and Ojibway tribes, their partnerships with French trappers, the intrusion of the Anglais and the resulting bloodshed are skillfully detailed in this gripping tale of the Straits.

“This could have been a dull book. History often is. But Turrill instead breathes life, and blood, into what he calls the ghost of Michilimackinac. Turrill’s steady hand quickly snaps it back into a living history lesson, filling in rich detail of pioneer life, customs, and sequences of events.”

The Saginaw News

“An incredible amount of digging and sifting has gone into reconstructing life in the Straits of Mackinac in the days of French and Indian rule. David Turrill fleshes out the relationships, the rivalries, and the recriminations that might have shaped those chapters in Michigan’s early history. It’s lively reading.”
