Nightcrawlers, Bait and Beer to Go

A Collection of Stories that Tickle the Tummy

by Hal Shymkus

Here’s a collection of humorous and heartfelt stories, anecdotes and experiences of a lifetime of fishing. This hilarious examination of life at a fishing camp contains tales long remembered after the catch.

You will meet Ralph LeBlanc, Jailer John, Sam the Chumming Man, Big Joe, Marge McFarland, Vito “The Nose” Giovannetti, Henrietta Schwartzkopf and other characters who make Knobby’s Place an asylum for anglers.

This colorful group loves fishing and has fun doing it. Fishermen have been known to be strange people who do strange things. You will find this thought comes alive on the pages of Nightcrawlers, Bait, and Beer to Go.

About the Author

Although he can recall at least twenty different types of jobs he has had through the years, most of Hal Shymkus’ business career has been involved in communications. After being an editor of the Chicago Heights Star, he spent thirty years with Cummins Engine Company in the management of advertising, graphics, and promotion, among other responsibilities.

He was born in Chicago and has first-hand knowledge of the Depression and World War II, where he was stationed in Foggia, Italy.

In 1983 he retired early, not entirely to pursue his enthusiasm for fishing and golfing, but to do advertising consulting and freelance writing. His material has appeared in Sports Afield, Field & Stream, Midwest Outdoors, Game & Fish, Great Lakes Fisherman, Senior Golfer, Western People, and other publications.

He and his wife Mary Beth live in Columbus, Indiana.
